Shooting Star...one of the most flamboyant of all wildflowers, the Shooting Star is said to resemble a miniature fireworks display. It is sometimes called Indian Chief or American Cowslip. The unusual little flower on a 1-foot stalk comes in magenta, pink or white. Petals are sharply reflexed and stamens point downward, giving the effect of a Shooting Star heading for earth. This plant thrives in open woods, on hillsides, and in stony ground. Actually, it can adapt to many soils and grows in partial sun or shade. The four to six leaves form beguiling rosettes on the ground.
