Bring sunny, golden charm to your garden with Black-Eyed Susans (Rudbeckia hirta). These classic wildflowers produce bright yellow petals with deep, dark centers, adding cheerful color from mid-summer to fall. Hardy and drought tolerant once established, they thrive in full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil, making them perfect for gardens, borders, and wildflower meadows. Easy to grow, simply scatter seeds outdoors in spring and press gently into the soil because they need light to germinate. Keep soil moist until seedlings appear in about 21 days. These low-maintenance blooms tolerate dry conditions and return year after year. Packed with non-GMO, filler-free seeds sourced in the USA, these wildflower seeds are ideal for gardeners of all levels. Great for creating pollinator-friendly spaces, bright borders, or a sea of golden blooms, Black-Eyed Susans add effortless, lasting beauty to any landscape.

Detailed Planting Instructions

Plant Black Eyed Susan seeds directly outdoors in spring after the danger of frost has passed. Choose a spot with full sun to partial shade and ordinary, moist, well-drained soil. To plant, gently press the seeds onto the surface of the soil rather than covering them deeply, since they need light to germinate. If planting in rows, space the seeds about 6–8 inches apart.

Keep the soil lightly moist while the seeds are germinating, which usually takes about 21 days. Once the seedlings come up, thin them so plants are spaced 12–16 inches apart to give them room to grow. Water regularly while the plants are getting established, but Black Eyed Susans can tolerate some dry conditions once mature. Fertilizer is usually not needed. You can expect blooms in about 60 to 90 days after planting.
