To successfully plant butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa) seeds in the spring, you must first cold stratify them to break their natural dormancy. This is achieved by storing the seeds in a moist, cold environment, such as a refrigerator for 30 days. Once the seeds have been properly stratified, you can
sow them directly outdoors after the final frost has passed.

For direct outdoor sowing, select a location that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of full sunlight per day and
has well-draining soil. Gently scatter the stratified seeds over the softened soil and lightly rake them into a 1/4 inch of depth.

It is crucial to keep the soil consistently moist until the seedlings are well-established.
