Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost (or sow outdoors in mild climates). For better germination, cold-stratify in the fridge for 2–4 weeks first. Sprinkle seeds on the surface of a seed-starting mix, press in, and cover with only a very light dusting—lavender needs light. Keep warm (around typical indoor room temps), bright, and lightly moist (never soggy). Germination often takes 14–30+ days. Transplant outside after frost into full sun and very well-drained soil, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Water to establish, then water sparingly—lavender hates wet feet and does best in lean soil.
