Detailed Planting Instructions

Plant zinnia seeds after your last frost date when nights stay above ~50°F, in a sunny spot (6–8+ hours) with well-drained soil. Loosen the top 1–2 inches of soil, scatter seeds evenly, then lightly cover with about 1/4 inch of soil and gently press for good seed-to-soil contact. Water with a soft spray to keep the surface consistently moist (not soggy) until seedlings emerge in 5–10 days, then shift to deeper, less frequent watering as roots develop. When seedlings are a few inches tall, thin to 6–12 inches apart (closer for smaller types, wider for larger) to improve airflow and encourage strong plants. For longer bloom, remove spent flowers regularly and avoid over-fertilizing -zinnias perform best with moderate nutrients and steady sun.
